Main Menu Link was our first module development project. After reading many threads in developer forums explaining how to hack the main menu to include an item when the desired result is that the selection simply links to a unique URL, we decided to create a module just for this purpose. Main Menu Link contains one configuration parameter, the destination URL.

Any URL is considered acceptable, either internal within the current site or external.

A safety measure has been incorporated so if the URL parameter is blank the module will default to the current site's home page.

Advantages of this module over using a hack are:
1. Eliminates the need to remember/document a main menu hack when the system is upgraded.
2. The menu item can be placed in any position, not just ahead of the list or at the end of the list.
3. Menu item label can be defined in the same manner as any other module.
4. You can control permissions regarding which groups can access.
